Dreaming
I’ve had quite a bit of difficulty in figuring out how to correctly document my dream experience. When I recall my dreams I remember something that I haven’t read about in any other place (though I’d be glad for links).
In the waking world we have our numerous senses that guide us through the day and by combining these very distinct sources of input our minds form our waking experience.
I nearly started this sentence as, “When we’re dreaming….” but I realize that my experience may (or not) be singular, and it is the amount of detail that I can recall that drives me to write about my dreams. So let me start that sentence over.
When I dream, the divisions between the senses, emotions, and even train-of-thought become less concrete. What would normally be experienced as a “touch” sense may be partially heard or seen. It might be experienced in first and third person at the same time. I might have some control over the events, complete control ( lucid dreaming ), or experience the entire dream as a movie.
One of the most interesting, to me, aspects of my dreaming life is that there appears to be some amount of continuity. Places I dream about which may be wholly imagined and yet I can pinpoint their exact location in the waking world.
This is likely to be the longest post regarding my dreams since so much of what is experienced while dreaming is of a fractured continuity. I will try to present the interesting pieces in hopes that maybe some logic might be seen.
